I've Been Byrned...................

By Turbo Byrned - Posted on 06 August 2011

Yes, I guess you can say that I have been 'Byrned'.  What does that mean?  Let me explain.  For those of you that haven't figured it out yet, my name is Turbo, a nickname that was given to me by Martha Byrne.  I have been lucky enough to get to know this amazing woman and it happened in a very unique way.  Some say social networking is no good, nothing but trouble, a waste of time.  My story will prove otherwise.

I have been a fan of Martha's since she started on As The World Turns back in 1985.  As soon as "Lily" came on my TV screen I was hooked.  I watched her faithfully trying not to miss an episode.  When her twin sister "Rose" was introduced in 2000, I was glued to the TV!  I knew Martha was an outstanding actor but this just put her over the top in my eyes!  In 2008 when Martha decided to leave the show I was devastated.  If my favorite actor was leaving then so was I.  I stopped watching ATWT the day Martha left.  I followed her to General Hospital where she played "Andrea" for four months.  I wasn't sure what Martha had been up to after she left GH.  This leads to my story.

I was on TWITTER in October of 2009 talking to some of my friends.  I noticed that one of my friends was tweeting a "MarthaByrne10".  I immediately asked my friend if that was THE Martha Byrne.  She confirmed and I was ecstatic, and also a little "tipsy" at the time.  I began tweeting Martha and I was shocked when I received my first tweet from her "Are you drunk"?  I chuckled to myself and continued to frantically tweet her just to try to talk to the woman that I had admired for over twenty years!  We began to talk almost daily and when I FINALLY got Martha to follow me (those of you that have twitter understand) I know I didn't stop smiling for days!  I began to "pimp" her on twitter (again, those that have twitter know what I mean) and I would tweet out everything and anything that had to do with Martha Byrne.  I even started a campaign to get her on Dancing With The Stars!  Martha enjoyed my tweets, she never knew what I was going to say or do next!  I would ask her often if I was ever going to get to meet her.  She would always answer "Soon, I promise".  Now to our first meeting.

I was going to NYC in March 2010 with a bunch of my friends.  Martha knew I was going and I promised I would tweet her from there.  For those of you that know me this trip to NYC was not a good one (except for one reason) but I'll save that story for another blog "Turbo Travels" HAHA.  My friends told me we were going to go to a bar called Kennedys because we could get free drinks there.  I was up for anything.  Little did I know who I was going to see.  I walked into the bar and to the back with my friends.  I looked up and standing right in front of me was the woman I had admired for most of my life...Martha Byrne.  I can't tell you what my exact words were, I need to keep this blog clean, but I CAN tell you that I almost passed out!  I could not believe that she set up this surprise to meet me!  We talked for awhile and she gave me her cast jacket from ATWT and she signed it!  WOW!  I never thought I would get to meet her, but she kept her promise!  It was a dream come true.  All because of TWITTER, a social network.  Since that first meeting I have attended many events that Martha has participated in including The Daytime Emmys.  I'm sure I will be attending many more in the future.  Wherever Martha goes Turbo isn't too far behind!

I adore Martha Byrne.  Martha and I are not only soap star and fan we have become good friends.  We enjoy each other.  I make her laugh.  She makes me smile.  We talk daily and my admiration for her grows stronger everyday.  She has taught me so much about many things and a lot about life in general.  My life has become so much better because of her being a part of it.  Yes, "I've Been Byrned" and I wouldn't change it for anything..............
